FIR against Bollywood star Ajay Devgan

Ranchi, Feb 28 : The owner of a film production house here has lodged an FIR against Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan, accusing him of failing to abide by a commitment to act in a movie under its banner.

"The company owner Rajesh Kumar Prasad, filed the FIR under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC with Argora police station in Ranchi yesterday," Superintendent of Police, Ranchi City, Richard Lakra, said.

According to Lakra, Prasad said in the complaint that his company and Devgan had made an agreement in 1995 as per which the actor was to play a lead role in the film under the banner of "Kumar Arts International" for which a cheque of rupees two lakh had allegedly been handed over to Devgan as advance.

"The complainant claimed in the FIR that Devgan was not available when they tried to contact him repeatedly," Lakra said.

Rags to riches romance, `Slumdog Millionaire` won eight Oscars at the 81st Academy Award function in Los Angeles.

A R Rahman scripted history by becoming the first Indian to win two Oscars for the Best Original Score `Slumdog Millionaire` and its foot-tapping song `Jai Ho`.

``The essence of the film is about optimism and the power of hope in our lives,`` Rahman said.

``I just want to thank again, the whole crew of `Slumdog Millionaire` especially Danny Boyle for giving me such a great opportunity,`` said Rahman.

He said, ``All the people from Mumbai and the essence of the film, which is about optimism and the power of hope and our lives. All my life I`ve had a choice of hate and love. I chose love, and I``m here. God bless.``

Rehman shares the best Song award with lyricist Gulzar. He has become the first Indian to win two Oscars.

While Simon Beaufoy got Best Adapted Screenplay award for the movie, Anthony Dod Mantle bagged Oscar for Best Cinematography and Danny Boyle won the best director Oscar for the movie.

Resul Pookutty won the Oscar for the Best Sound Mixing for the movie. Chris Dickens bagged Oscar in the Best Film Editing Category for Slumdog Millionaire and Resul Pookutty, sound engineer from Kerala, won the Oscar in the Sound Mixing category.

Adding to India`s joy, `Smile Pinki`, with strong Indian connection, bagged the prestigious award in the short documentary category.

Zakir Hussain wants an Oscar for Rahman

After winning a Grammy in the contemporary World Music Album category for his collaborative album Global Drum Project, Zakir Hussain says that he sincerely desires that A R Rahman wins an Oscar.
On being asked to respond to Rahman's global recognition for Slumdog Millionaire, Zakir Hussain said that, "He is a genius. I think his talent has been duly recognised now and I am very happy with that. The best thing about him is that he has consistently proved himself. He is not a one time wonder. He has delivered consistently. He has really made us feel very proud. I hope he does equally fantastic at the Oscars. "
Talking about his own achievements he says that he is very excited on his achievement because it was a competition with the great musicians of the contemporary world music.
"I look at this win as the reaffirmation of my hard work. This second time Grammy recognition is the witness of the fact that in today s modern world I have not fallen behind times. I am up-to-date in creative contemporary world of music. I am extremely happy and satisfied with this achievement," said Zakir.
Zakir Hussain worked with Mickey Hart of the rock band Grateful Dead, Nigerian percussionist Sikiru Adepoju and Puerto Rican jazz percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo for the album.
Global Drum Project is the second collaboration between Hart and Hussain. Their compilation Planet Drum which was released in 1991 went on to win the first-ever Grammy Award in the World Music category.
Asked if he would have felt more satisfactory, had it been a win for a purely Indian project, he said, "It's true that Global Drum Project is a collaborative work with western musicians. I will be happier if a pure Indian project wins a Grammy sometime in future. Till now the only purely India project which claimed Grammy glory was Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt's work."
