Slumdog Millionaire opens across India

The film Slumdog Millionaire, which has just been nominated for ten Oscars including Best Film and Best Director, opens today in cinemas across India.
Set in the city of Mumbai, it follows the fortunes of a young man from the slums who has a chance to hit the jackpot on the Indian version of a television quiz show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
However, it is not entirely an Indian film.

Mumbai: The Star screen awards held in Mumbai on Wednesday night created quite a buzz in Bollywood. Not just for the awards but also for all the unexpected surprises.


Rock On bagged as many as 6 awards in various categories. The top order was swept away by the Jodha Akbar team. Ashutosh Gowarikar picked up the trophy for the best director, Hrithik Roshan the best actor and Jodha Akbar won the best film award .


Best actress went to Priyanka Chopra for her power packed performance in Madhur Bhandarkars fashion.


The who’s who of Bollywood walked the red carpet at this gala event.


"Coming to these awards is celebrating all kinds of cinema," says Ashwariya Rai.


"I am happy that I am nominated," said Akshay Kumar.


"I feel very happy and also happy for others who have won," says Farhan Akhtar.


There were quite a few surprises and jaw dropping moments during the function that kept the crowd entertained and stunned. Akshay Kumar who won the popular award for the best actor refused to accept the trophy saying Aamir khan deserved it more for his role in Ghajini than him.


Soon after that there was an open spat between filmmaker Ashutosh gowarikar and the host Sajid khan on stage, when Gowarikar went to pick up his trophy and shared his thoughts with the crowd.


Kareena Kapoor backed out from performing on stage when she found out that she will be a part of a performance which will also include Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif. Of course at this stage in her career Bebo only performs solo!



Well this one night has given Bollywoods gossip writers enough material to last a long time.

Hrithik, Priyanka bag best actor, actress award of 2008

Bollywood heartthrobs Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra were adjudged for the best actor and actress award at the Best Screen Award ceremony held here.
Hrithik bagged the award for his performance in Ashutosh Gowariker's 'Jodhaa Akbar', while Priyanka for 'Fashion' made by Madhur Bhandarkar.
The best director award was shared by Ashutosh Gowariker for 'Jodhaa Akbar' and Neeraj Pandey for 'A Wednesday'.
'Jodha Akbar' became the best film of year 2008.
Aishwarya Rai and Akshay Kumar were honoured with Nokia Popular Viewers' Choice awards for 'Jodha Akbar' and 'Singh is Kiing' respectively.
Akshay Kumar, however, left the viewers and organisers in disbelief by dedicating the award to Aamir Khan for his performance in 'Ghajini'.
When called upon the stage, Akshay, said he watched 'Ghajini' and felt that Aamir deserved this honour and left the stage without collecting the trophy dedicating it to Aamir.
Tushar Kapoor bagged best supporting actor award for 'Golmaal Returns' and Sahana Goswami received the award in female category for 'Rock On'.
Farhan Akhtar was named as best debut male actor for 'Rock On' and Aseen for 'Gajhini'.
A R Rehman, who recently bagged the prestigious Golden Globe award in US for his original music in the forthcoming movie 'Slumdog Millionaire', bagged the best background music award for 'Jodhaa Akbar'.Apart from sharing the best director award, Neeraj Pandey also received the best story award for his debut film 'A Wednesday.' Priyanka Chopra was conspicuous by her absence at the ceremony while Hrithik and Aishwarya were present.

Ghajini stars celebrate a grand success party

Ghajini becoming the first Bollywood movie to gross Rs 100 crores was a big reason to celebrate. What made this achievement more special was that the movie achieved this feat within a weak of its release. All this called for a grand success party where the entire cast and the crew members of Ghajini including Aamir Khan, A R Murugadoss, Asin and Jiah Khan were present.

Aamir said he was very happy thta the hard work put in paid off and the movie was liked by the audience. The perfectionist actor attributed the success of the movie to director A R Murugadoss and said it was an entire team effort which made this happen. Rubbishing the ego clash rumours the leading ladies Asin Jiah Khan were seen conformable in each others company.
